Re: Walk the West Highland Way
I've walked the Conuc Hill section your talking about with around 20 dogs and had no issues! Since the new Access Legislation it would be very difficult indeed to stop you taking your dog as long as you have it under control even during lambing and ground nesting. Infact I'd go as far as saying that if you were told to get your dog off their land and it was indeed under control they would be close to breaking the Law!!!
The Great Glen is another of those ones I really fancy doing think I need to win the lottery so I can just go walks!!!

Re: Walk the West Highland Way
I know a couple of people who have done the Great Glen Way and been dissapointed with it as a lot of it is on forestry tracks, with tall trees on either side so you dont get a good view!
i was forgetting access laws have changed since I last done it. That would also mean that, even if you dont have a dog, you wouldnt have to walk along the road into Balmaha if you where doing it in spring now! Thats good as it's a nice section to miss.

I always envisaged the Great Glen Way as a massive expanse of open rolling hills on either side of you not loads of forestry that would be disappointing!!!
The new access legislation makes such a difference when out
especially with ths dogs and although it gives responsible people mote freedom it gives land owners and farmer clear rules to abide to and if the irresponsible over step them then it's much easier to do something about it! And in their terms that generally means a grant to put up a fence and gate and signage at half the price the grant was and pocket the rest and get money for encouraging access so they win all the way to the bank!!!
Re: Walk the West Highland Way
thats exactly what I have heard and read about the Great Glen Way-often trees block your views
would still like to do it mind you
the Wicklow way in Ireland sounds fantastic- a real off the beaten track, wilderness walk
